ODT 3 - Discovery Bay West Side (Temporary, on-road, Route)

The majority of this section of the ODT follows Old Gardiner Rd, which leaves US Hwy 101 to the right, just a mile past the intersection of State Hwy 20. Excellent views of Discovery Bay and open land are abundant on this section. Highway 101 has a 5-6 ft shoulder. Traffic on Hwy 101 often exceeds 55 mph. Old Gardiner Rd is a flat paved side road, is seldom used, and affords great views and peaceful riding. This side road is used for about 5 miles of the 6.9 mile route.

Stay or stop at the WorldMark, The Club resort on the shores of Discovery Bay on this route. The Snug Harbor Cafe at Discovery Bay and the Wild Birds Unlimited in Gardiner are interesting and enjoyable stops along the way.

Take a fun detour on Gardiner Beach Rd, just a mile off the ODT, and ride the loop around Rondelay Rd to view some very whimsical larger-than-life troll figures and their dwellings in this neighborhood. Highly recommended for the kid in you.
