ODT #3: Discovery Bay to Gardiner

The majority of this section of the ODT follows Old Gardiner Rd, which leaves US Hwy 101 to the right, just a mile past its intersection of State Hwy 20. Old Gardiner Rd is a flat low traffic road, and affords great views and peaceful riding. At about 2.5 miles Old Gardner Rd turns left onto Broder Rd and ends at Hwy 101. You will need to proceed 1.5 miles on the shoulders of Hwy 101 before you can rejoin Old Gardner Rd on your left Traffic on Hwy 101 often exceeds 55 mph, but its shoulder is 6 to 8 ft wide and you will soon be back on a quiet country road. Three miles on Old Gardner Rd brings you to the end of this section, at the intersection of Diamond Point Rd and Hwy 101.

Stay or stop at the WorldMark, The Club resort on the shores of Discovery Bay on this route. The Snug Harbor Cafe at Discovery Bay and the Wild Birds Unlimited in Gardiner are interesting and enjoyable stops along the way.

Take a fun detour on Gardiner Beach Rd, just a mile off the route, and travel the loop around Rondelay Rd to view some very whimsical larger-than-life troll figures and their dwellings in this neighborhood. Highly recommended for the kid in you.
